Land and Resource Uses

Land ownership and patterns of resource use are important factors to consider when planning for salmonid recovery. For example, if land is in public ownership, restoration efforts may require different planning and implementation processes than efforts on private lands. Adjacent land uses can have important effects, both beneficial and detrimental, on salmonid habitat (see the Factors Limiting Salmonid Production section for more information).

The information in the present sections is current as of the beginning of the 21st Century, but it will soon become outdated as government regulations and social and economic factors change. Coastal managers can use the references cited in these section to obtain updated information about land ownership and patterns of resource use in San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties.
