The SRP Interactive Mapping Application

Welcome to the Salmonid Habitat Restoration Planning Resource (SRP) Interactive Mapping application covering San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties in California. The SRP Interactive Mapping application allows users to zoom, identify, display and print geographic information system (GIS) datasets through an Internet browser. Via this Web-based GIS, users are also able to overlay datasets and begin visualizing and analyzing environmental data depicting regional watershed conditions. Users who are new to GIS or interactive mapping applications are encouraged to read the help menu before exploring the interactive map.

Datasets that are available for viewing in this application include reference data (such as roads and cities), fish distribution and habitat information, and ecosystem management information. Other available datasets include study area hydrology, vegetation, land use, environmental quality, and socio-economic data.

When exploring datasets in this application, users can examine questions such as the following:

SRP Interactive Mapping application interface
  • Are there any restoration activities occurring in my watershed? If so, what are the goals of the local restoration efforts?
  • What geologic features and soil types occur in my watershed? How might they relate to potential erosion rates within the watershed?
  • Which streams contain coho salmon and/or steelhead trout? What are the land uses alongside these streams? Are there any barriers in these streams that might be affecting fish passage?

These questions and many others may be explored with the SRP Interactive Mapping application. Additionally, the maps that are created with this application can be printed and incorporated into reports, proposals, presentations, and grant applications. For more information on using the SRP Interactive Mapping application, go to the Help menu now or once inside the application.
